The Essentials of Partying.

The Music.

Once again we have managed against all circumstance to prevail and reach the weekend. And one of the things that Berlin can really do, Is the Weekend.

In the city of techno (and all other endless varieties of electro), the music and the DJ is somewhat the king of the club. Well maybe music is king and the DJ is a duke or governor. And a club can rise or fall because of the DJ and the music that is being played.

The problem is that there's to many DJ's. Who is Who? When telling someone about a club they always ask - So, who's Dj-ing? That counter question always make me think. I mean, who really knows all these Dj's? I don't. I can understand if you're a DJ yourself, then you should know a couple. At least you should know your competition.

So to solve this ignorance of the people I suggest that they start making DJ cards. Collectibles with a picture of the DJ on the front and his or hers statistics on the back. If it works for baseball and hockey then why not for DJ's.

But enough of my rambling, what happens in Berlin this weekend. Well it's hard to tell this time around. A lot I'm sure, but exactly where the best party will be held is not really know to me. I know that there is an after party for the Florence and the Machine concert that should be good. But other than that I guess that the big once will be safe bets (panorama, berghain, renate, gate or butzke to name a few).

Where every you might go, there will be people and there will be music. So have a good weekend!

Efterklang, Modern Drift

Modern Drift.

Yes it's indie pop, but it's good. And yes they are Danish, but their new album sounds good.

Their new album Magic Chairs was released a couple of days ago and has been received with good criticism. But not all fans agree on that point. Some say that they have gone to mainstream and that they have lost their original sound. I don't really care whether or not that is the case. Mainly because I haven't listen to their older songs and secondly because I just heard about them a couple of days ago.

Modern Drift is simply a nice song from a talented band. All I can say is listen and enjoy.

Linea Rouge Thermometer

The wine will tell you.

Instead of mercury the designer Sono Mucci looked at the old way of doing it. Red wine can also tell us how warm it is.

It's surprising that not all none digital thermometers use some other liquid than mercury. Not only because mercury is dangerous and poisonous but also the energy that it takes to produce. But soon all thermometers will be like Sono Mucci's. Telling us how warm it by using alcohol.

But the new ones made will not look as good as this one does. With a clean design like this, you will not be hiding this thermometer behind a door.

Now the question is where to get The Linea Rouge.

Adidas Full Back

A 0.39.

One way to celebrate that spring is on it's slow way would be to get a sneak that is sporting white-on-white.

This Full Back from Adidas in one of the cleaner ones that has been released this spring. It's almost a bit surprising that Adidas would launch such a sneaker. It looks almost like a high end (very expensive) sneaker.

It's clean, it's crisp and a safe bet for spring. I would say that a safer bet will be hard to find right now. The design and the fact that it's white means that it will go with almost anything. But on the other hand it also means that in might be seen as somewhat boring. But who cares about that when you know that you're sporting a sneaker with style.

Sweet Sneak.

Party In Berlin.

The Movies keep on playing.

The movie crowd still hasn't left the city, the artists trows art opening after art opening and some still want to put on a mask.

Finally it's Friday and it's a Friday in a Berlinale struck Berlin. Just like last week the people around the festival wants to head out a see what the night has to offer. Hard to say where they will go. Maybe they will head over to M.I.K.Z for the club Another Fucking Party. Or maybe You Don't Like It? in Maria. But it is guarantied that some of the Berlinale people will show up at the Berlinale Filmschool Party in HBC tonight. Hopefully I will to.

And if things go alright then there will be a Saturday coming. There is another Stoffwechsel but this time in a somewhat smaller location. It will be in Markgrafendamm 18. The party's they host have been fun before. Wonder if it's gonna have the same long line out front this time around?

And further down the same street there is something for the one that wants to put on a mask. Maybe with "Eyes Wide Shut" aspirations Zur wilden Renate is having what they call a Maskenball. There is a dress code so you need to put a mask on or get your face painted at the club. Sounds like it can be very interesting. People have a tendency to go wilder when you can't see their faces.

It has the potential to be a very good weekend.

Smile!

Just Smile.

When thinking about what actually is The Best Stuff I See, I can't help but to think about the smaller things, the stuff that doesn't have to cost a thing.

One of those things is a smile. It's so simple. A little smile from someone can be worth so much more than a sneaker, a ring or anything else that is posted here. Sure, a smile can be brought on by a material thing, but it can also come from millions of other reasons. Reasons that don't need to cost anything.

So just as a reminder. Remember the smiles you see. Don't let them pass unnoticed.

Portico Quartet, Clipper

Jazz and such.

Drum orientated pop/jazz. Sounds to exist by.

This post should maybe have been posted on a Sunday. Jazz and this kind of music make me think of a Sundays. The melancholy feel that something is ending and the questions that comes with that. What have I really done? and What is gonna happen next?

The Portico Quartet has a special sound in that they sound the way you want jazz to sound. Not to much and not to crazy. And their use of the hang drum gives something more to it as it sound a little like an oil drum.

The band was first signed in 2007 and released their first album "Knee-deep in the North See" the same year. They are now touring and playing songs from their latest album "Isla" that came out last year.

Two Finger Ring.

A Bit more Bling.

Ever since seeing the pictures of the 80's hip-hoppers, a ring that's not only on one finger has had it's appeal.

Okay, the picture here doesn't exactly show how the ideal two-finger ring should look like (but it's close). It should be in metal and have a "silver" surface. Of course it doesn't need to be actual silver. It's the style, not the value of the material that matters. It should not be on more than two fingers and it shouldn't have any writing on it.

The real problem will be to find such a ring. It's always like this. I have a clear picture in my mind on what it is I would like. But when I go out and try to find it, it's no where to be seen. You look and you look and in the end you just get angry, or you end up getting something that you're not really happy with. I'm committed to not letting this happen one more time. This time I will just go to a jeweler and pay them to make one.

But before I do that I would just like to ask. Do you know a jeweler, jewelry designer or someone that can work with metal here in Berlin? Then let me know.

Adidas Top Ten, Aluminum.

Something shiny!

One of Adidas long running favorites has found new shinny clothes.

The name Top Ten comes from when it was given to the ten top players of the NBA in 1979. And since then it has become a classic among sneaker lovers. For good reason, I wrote about another version of it not that long ago. And then just like it is now the Top Ten sports a very nice design. This color combo is low key until you look at the tongue and the ankle padding. The red and black works perfect with the grey and the aluminum gives it that little extra.

I wouldn't call this a spring/summer sneak, so it's actually a bit surprising that they choose to launch it now. Either way, clean pair of kicks.

Berlinale 2010.

Movies and Parties.

The film festival has begun, the stars are standing in line to show off their stuff. And the ones that stay longer than just for their screening might just party in this the capital of Germany.

Berlin has a vibrant club life and when I think about it, I think about the clubs that play electro. The clubs in the east that have that real Berlin feeling. They might not be the cleanest ones in this world but that doesn't matter when the best Dj's from all over the world play here. The thing is when celebrities think about clubs, they thing about expensive one's. And that's a completely different scene all together.

So even though the film festival brings a lot of celebrities to the city I doubt that the normal person will get to shake it on the dance floor with any of them. But surly some of the people from the festival are gonna go to Tresor tonight as they have a special Berlinale Event.

Other things that are happening are theme nights because it's Valentines Day and soon Carnival. So don't be surprised if there's a bit more red hearts hanging in the club. Or for that matter people in costumes.

I think a little pre-party over at BuyReggae is in order since it was a lot of fun last time. And other than that maybe a trip to Kleine Reise, WMF or Tape (depending on the music). But as always, you never know where you end up.

Take it easy and have a great weekend!

Happy Socks.

Color up your feet!

I don't think I'm the only one that is a bit tired of only wearing white or black socks. The solution is simple. Colored socks from Happy Socks.

What's really good with this brand is that there's so many different colors and patterns to choose from. Here you can really find exactly the color and the pattern your looking for. Your socks will never miss match again.

Okey, your socks not matching your other clothes might not be a big problem in everyday life. But think about this scenario. You go out on the town and you meet somebody. You like this person so the two of you end up at your place. And if you're lucky you make it over to the bedroom. And as you are taking your clothes off you are not the only one that is going to get happy. Because this is the moment when Happy Socks really live up to their name. This is when they put a smile on somebody else's face.

Oh, and don't forget. Even if it doesn't seem like it, spring is just around the corner and sooner or later you're gonna want to put on those shorts. Do I need to say more?

Vampire Weekend Cousins.

Another Vampire.

Vampire Weekend made it big with their self entitled album. This January they dropped their new album Contra.

The hype is big when it comes to this band, so if the music is not to your liking then at least you should be aware of their existence.

The band has not been active long but in that short time they have had songs on charts all over the world and this new album was the band's first to debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200.

Cheap Monday Spring/Summer 2010.

Sweden's Darling.

Cheap Monday has since the start 2004 been one if not the most beloved child of the Swedish fashion scene. And it is logical, top design for a good price.

And their spring/summer line offers a great variety of jackets, jeans and sweaters. What stands out in this line is the jeans. Cheap Monday has released many new coloration's and tears on this lines jeans. Check out more of them by clicking here.

But the massage is clear, upper body big and lower body slim. And that trend will continue. And I do think that Cheap Monday offers the tightest jeans around. At least to the best prize.

Supra TK Society.

Sneaker Society.

Released a couple of weeks ago this high-top is apart of Supras spring collection 2010. Talk about tongue.

The TK is a very high sneaker and being that it also has a very big tongue. This is for the sneaker freak the best part. But for the rest of us this can be a challenge. But there is no need to be scared, used right this sneaker can be the highlight of any outfit.

It's a cool sneaker that fits very well with slimmer jeans or with shorts (It might be a bit early to talk about shorts but before we know it we are standing there and it's warm). But the TK's best feature is that it's a bit different than other high sneaks. It will stick out in a good way.

Clubs Berlin.

Friday and Saturday.

The work week is coming to an end. The busy little workers try to shake of their zombie state of mind and head out to play.

If it's social awareness or merely a gimmick remains to be seen but the charity night keep taking place. This weekend the cash-straight-to-the-needy is not the only case. Tonight a club called Stoffwechsel is taking charge of M.I.K.Z Club. This is the first time that Stoffwechsel is taking place in a "real" club. What they have done is bought a large amount of second-hand clothes and any one that comes gets a jacket or two. The crowd then turns into a mix of strange creations. A couple of weeks ago I was at a Stoffwechsel party in Hangar, they manage to create a nice feeling and the whole idea of re-using things is something we should all do more often. It's tonight and starts 23:00 at Revaler Str 99.

This weekend also marks the start of the university spring break, which means a lot of students are hitting the town. Tonight some of them are gonna end up at the Erasmus party also in the Revaler strasse.

Another place that has a good weekend planed is Ritter Butzke, later today they house the club Heimat and tomorrow DELIKAT has their four year anniversary. Ritter Butzke is located in were Ritter str and Lobecker str meets.

All in all the choices are many. So make sure you take advantage of excess of option. Have a great weekend. See you next week.

The Laptop Sleeve.

Protecting your technology.

Most people have a laptop. And because of that most people need some type of bag/case to protect it. There are more options on how to do this than you think.

The name of this sleeve is My Documents, and that's exactly what it is. An icon of a folder. The design might not fall into what you would call stylish or clean. But what it lacks in that department it gains in being cleaver and funny. Click here to find out more.

Like all things this too tells people about who you are. So think before you get one. This might be one for university more than for a serious business meeting. If you want to get a better idea on what's out there a good compilation of nice laptop sleeves and bags can be found here.

Four Tet, She Just Likes To Fight.

Kieran Hebden.

Folktronica they call the music. And Keiran Hebden and his music project Four Tet is maybe the biggest artist in this genre.

Soft and sometimes chaotic but with a relaxed feeling is one way to describe this music. The best way to know is of course just to listen to it. Good music for clearing your mind. Perfect for a ride in the car or to listen to in your headphones on the train to work.

Under the name Four Tet Keirab Hebden has previously released six albums. He has also released four albums under his own name. The song She Just Likes to Fight comes from his newest album entitled There Is Love In You.

Losing an Idea.

It all falls apart.

Getting an good idea can be one of the most perfect moments. Losing it can be the hardest.

It has happened to everyone. On the way to work, sitting in a lecture hall or waiting for a coffee. As you are deep in thought thinking about just anything it suddenly hits you. An idea and it's not just any idea, it a really good one. In that second you feel lighter. Everything around you is better and more beautiful. But somehow your mind races on and before you know it that idea is left behind.

What just a moment ago was the beginning of something new has just turned into the worst point of the day. After trying to re-trace your mental steps. After going over and trying to re-create exactly what you were thinking about and not finding it. This is when it really hits you. You had a great idea and you just lost it. If your smart you just move ahead, you shake it off and tell yourself that it will all come back to you. And even if it won't you will have millions of great ideas in the future.

But most people don't think like that. Instead what happens it that you go around and think about it more and more. And sooner or later the idea that was once great has now become the best idea you ever had.

All you can really do is just try to leave it behind you, that and always making sure that you have a pen and paper close by.

Nike Air Rally.

Tennis anyone?

Dropped not long ago this sneaker from Nike shows that they too can make a nice tennis shoe.

This sneaker gives you everything you could ever ask for in a tennis shoe. Exept for actually being able to play tennis in them. It sports a pure white, gummed sole and a traditional colored heal. All of which makes it a very clean sneaker. But the best thing is the actual shape. Other tennis shoes has the tendency to be to rounded.

Simply said a nice sneaker for spring time. Will be easy to match with and can be worn at almost every occasion. Unless you find a special edition Stan Smith this is the way to go if you are on the search for a tennis sneak.
