Good with fall. Part 1.

The Flea Market.

There are a few things that are actually good with fall and that the weather is beginning to turn into crap.

One of the nice things to do in fall is to go to flea markets. The old things, the people, the whole set up works better when the leafs are turning gold and the air is a bit chilly. The mood is something special when you get up on a Sunday with a flea market day ahead. Just drinking a coffee to get yourself up and then going straight to the restaurant for brunch. Brunching in Berlin is like a hobby for some people and the interest in this way of eating had given the city a good supply of affordable brunch menus. That all-you-can-eat mentality really works in the city.

After you have filled up on to much food and to little drink it's time to go to one of the many flea markets. And the Berliners love their flea markets. You can find them on Saturdays but on Sunday it's for real, then it's business. And people have stuff to sell. Maybe people got a bit crazy and bought to much stuff in the 80's or they simple need the money, because flea markets are big business.

If you pick the right one you will get a nice mix of normal people selling off their memory's and professionals with € signs in mind. But some of these pros are artist trying to get by or young designers that want to get there brand going. It's that mix, a smoke, a cup of coffee and the fresh autumn air that makes the Flea Market one of the really good things about fall.

The only hard thing is to manage to get up to make a day out of it. I'm usually to hung over to walk out the door at 10 in the morning on a Sunday.

Lauren Hill.

Everything is everything.

This weeks song is from Lauren Hill, It's not just a good song but the video is one of the best.

I just wonder how you're supposed to interpret the video. That the city is a record and the streets are tracks on that LP. Is it that we really are the music. That a city is like a song and the world is a never ending medley. None the less a very good video.

Lauren Hill is a good musician, I mean we all listen to the The Fugees. Pretty much all there songs was played to death on MTV. But this was in the days when MTV actually played music videos and not just strange dating shows. And did you know that Lauren Hill was in the movie Sister Act 2 with Whoopi Goldberg back in 94. Playing the role of a trouble teen with a amazing musical talent.

Lately Miss Hill has bin away but a new album release is rumored.

Bookshelf.

Charlotte Perriand.

There are some classic designs that never go out of style. This is one of them.

It takes a french designer who spend a lot of time in Japan to get a shelf like this. Mixing styles but still staying clean. It can be amazing how good a design can become by merely sticking to the simple shapes. One should always try to keep it simple. Often enough less truly is more.

This shelf is a piece that will make any room so much better. Worth having in mind the next time furniture shopping is on the to-do list. Of course getting an original will be a time and money consuming endeavour. But there are bound to be remakes, copies and fakes out there. Or at least something that almost looks like this one.

When it's my turn to be rich I will get a couple of these. And everything ever posted on this blog. I would also like to take a moment to thank everyone that comment and follow the blog.
And pass the word on twitter and facebook. Because, the more the merrier.

Plant a Seed.

Let it Grow.

Planing a seed and seeing it grow is something special. All growth, be it an idea, a city, a child, a animal or a plant gives something to the person that started it.

A plant is growth in the simplest form. A seed, soil and water is all that is needed. Technically you don't have to buy anything. Dirt can be found everywhere, you can get a seed from a friend or a plant you find in any garden you might walk past. There is really nothing stopping you.

And besides the feeling you get from seeing something you started grow, it's sometimes amazing to reap what you have sown. I have just tasted one of the tomatoes from my tomato plant and it would be hard to find a tomato like that in the supermarket. It's just better.

And soon the time will come for my other plant to go to harvest. And that harvest party is going to be something else...

Sound Providers

Autumns Evening Breeze.

Today the Sound Providers gives us some art and music with that autumn feeling. We who live in the more northern parts of Europe have to slowly get use to the fact that fall is coming. The temperature hasn't gone down much this week but soon it will.

A normal autumn I would be feeling bad, only getting ahead thinking about winter and darkness. But not this time. I have set out to figure out all the good thing about fall. I mean there must be at least a couple of good thing with it.

And besides the darkness has perks to...

Edie Sedgwick.

The Superstar.

Edie Sedgwick was one of the first Superstars. It seems as if she herself was the show and that no one could keep up with her. Today she is a Icon of fashion and style.

But how did she become a superstar? It must have bin the way she was that made her into the icon. Being capable of charm and simply giving of that air of fame and fortune without maybe even having it. I think this is what made her into the style-icon that she is.

And if she could do it then what stops anyone else from doing it? I guess what stops most people are themselves. A mental block that was given to us as children. Something that holds us back from socializing with who and what we want. As a child we were never allowed to talk to people we didn't know. Every unknown person became something scary. We were to behave and reform to our parents will. In that we were stopped from becoming what we really are.

I say -Try to break free from the negative things that are in our minds. We can all be superstars. We can all get what we want.

Röyksopp

Happy up here

This is just a really good video and a really good song. The space invaders theme in a alternative city is well made to say the least. Even if Futurama already did it. I wonder in which city they made this video. Somehow it reminds me of Berlin but the sidewalks doesn't match. It would not surprise me if it is a Norwegian city, maybe Oslo.

Just bringing some music while it's still possible. Remember to take care of the internet and make sure to fight anyone that tries to take it away. Just blow them out of the sky.

Rene Magritte

The Son Of Man 1964
Rene Magritte 21 November 1898 – 15 August 1967

I saw a painting by Magritte on TV the other day and thought that more people should know this painter. He is one of the most famous Belgian (if not the most famous) painters. But Magritte has a very interesting life story. When he was 13 his mother killed herself by drowning. Something that would most likely haunt him for his entire life.

His first paintings date back to 1915 and were impressionistic. He later studied and married and went off to serve in the Belgian infantry. He stayed in Brussels during the Nazi occupation. After the war he was tight on money and to solve this he started to make fake Picassos, Chiricos and Braques paintings. He later also went in to the fake money printing business. Not long after that his career got started.

He seems to have been a interesting person, but most of all his paintings are somehow just very intriguing. So if you get the chance, then see one live.
